My name is Piper — I am a curious, chatty writer, reporter and proud Kentuckian with roots in overnight summer camp, book clubs and recreational soccer. The region's civility and good manners taught me to read between the lines, dig deeper and form working relationships with community members to find solutions to problems impacting our neighbors.

Since third grade, I've been part of almost a dozen different newsrooms where my responsibilities have varied from news writing, copy editing, project management and more. I've written extensively about Kentucky and Arizona state government and politics and its intersection with public health, transportation, climate change, housing, education and sports. That work has been recognized at local, state and national levels.

I graduated cum laude in May 2023 from Arizona State University with bachelor's degrees in journalism and sociology. Most recently I worked as the editor-in-chief at The State Press, ASU's online, student-run campus newspaper, where I managed all written content published online and hired and directed a staff of over 100. My reporting led to an incoming dean’s firing before her first day, the university to be found in violation of the Clery Act and unveiled details about athletics, housing and COVID-related controversies. While in school, I completed dynamic politics reporting internships with The Arizona Capitol Times, The Arizona Republic, Substack and Arizona PBS.

When I'm not in a newsroom, I'm searching for the best sandwich within a mile radius of wherever I am and talking about baseball with anyone who will listen. My favorite color is green, my favorite game is capture the flag and I love airports, but not flying.
